The Creation by Franz Joseph Haydn.......(CONCLUDED)
Friday, October 30, at Littleton United Methodist Church, at 7:30.
The two great oratorios Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) wrote late in life - The Creation and The Seasons - are supreme masterpieces of optimism, celebrating universal harmony and rejoicing in a flawless world order with no conflicts or adversity of any kind. According to Haydn biographer, Georg August Griesinger, “[Haydn] was very strongly convinced that all human destiny is under God's guiding hand, that God rewards good and evil, that all talents come from above. Even as he was writing it, Haydn thought of The Creation as the summit of his entire life's work, and certainly, that is how many generations of music-lovers have perceived the oratorio.”

A World of Hope featuring Kutandara Marimba Ensemble and the Littleton Chorale
The Littleton Chorale Music Festival will embrace music of the world as we present a compelling new work of power and beauty: Misa Tariro (Mass of Hope) by Boulder-based composer Randy McIntosh. Misa Tariro was written for the incredible Kutandara Marimba Ensemble and large chorus and features a combination of texts from the traditional Latin mass and sacred Shona African poetry.
Kutandara Marimba Ensemble fuses ancient African music traditions with Latin, jazz, gospel, classical and world folk influences. Their exuberant and high-energy polyrhythmic performances are innovative, and at the same time, deeply-rooted in tradition. Kutandara means “come together and have a good time,” which is the group’s purpose as they exchange energy of music and movement with their audiences.

What A Wonderful World – A Tribute To Louis Armstrong
May 7 & 8 (Friday and Saturday) at Littleton United Methodist Church, at 7:30
Louis Armstrong (1901-1971) was one of the most important musicians of the 20th century – an artist who blasted the music of the world out of a tired tradition of classic orchestra and mundane Tin Pan Alley pop into the exciting era of real jazz. Renowned for his charismatic stage presence and deep, instantly recognizable voice almost as much as his trumpet-playing, Armstrong’s influence extended will beyond jazz, and by the end of his career in the 1960’s he was widely regarded as a profound influence on the American popular music scene and the American Civil Rights Movement.
