Our Outreach Mission
We want to take this opportunity to appeal to you, an enthusiast of the music community, and enlist your financial support for the Chorale’s Outreach Programs. The Outreach Programs impact many people in our community by providing free or discounted concerts for seniors and funding to purchase sheet music and instruments for school music programs. The Senior Outreach Program is a vital part of our giving back to the community. Since 2006, Littleton Chorale has provided an annual free concert to seniors. These concerts have been very popular with hundreds of seniors in attendance. In addition, the Chorale offers almost a 30% ticket discount to seniors for our regular season concerts. The Music Education Outreach Program primarily funds the annual Littleton Chorale Music Festival that features choirs from area high schools. The Music Festival involves between 150 and 250 high school students each year. After a recent concert, two students from the festival chorus approached me and told me what a great time they had singing with such a large chorus and orchestra. When I asked what was next for them, they pointed to their haircuts to indicate that they were going into the military. “We just want you to know that no matter what happens we will never forget this experience. Thank you.”
In addition to providing a great musical experience for these students, Littleton Chorale also sponsors a vocal competition for participating high school students. Throughout the past six years, the Chorale has awarded nearly $15,000 in college scholarships. Funding for these scholarships is provided by the Bud Nicholson Scholarship Fund and by generous contributions. The Scholarship Fund was established by Vi Nicholson in memory of her husband Bud Nicholson, founding director of the Littleton Chorale. We began the Music Education Outreach Program to aid and encourage growth and visibility for school music programs. In 2006, we expanded this outreach to include area elementary schools. Not every elementary school receives the same resources and funding for learning. After researching schools that fit the criteria based on financial needs and a diverse population, we focused our efforts on East Elementary School in the Littleton School District. East Elementary Honors Choir has performed during two of our music festivals. The Chorale has purchased new drums and keyboard instruments as well as sheet music for its under-funded program. The Music Education Outreach Program has also provided funding for Elementary student scholarships in order for them to attend Young Voices, a well respected local music voice training program that has several different levels of choirs to accommodate the needs of the students. We are currently working with the Littleton Public Schools to find additional elementary school music programs in need of financial assistance. “I wanted to let you know what an effect you had on our children and parents. The students felt like movie stars. I am sure that this experience sparked a lifetime of musical adventures in young lives!” – Amy Gonzales, Director of East Elementary Honors Choir How music impacts our lives often can’t be described in words no matter what your age. It is our mission to create great musical experiences for our audience and members as well as provide additional performance opportunities and financial resources for teachers and students throughout the South Metro Denver Area. If you would like to contribute to ensure the growth and maintenance of our Outreach Programs, please either send a check via U.S. mail or click on the donation button. Your financial support is important and critical in many ways to our success as a community organization. Thank you for joining our mission to enhance the future of music in our community. Sincerely,
